TULSA, Okla. (TCD) -- A 73-year-old woman was arrested last week for allegedly shooting her husband in the back of the head while he slept.
In a statement, the Tulsa Police Department said officers responded to a home near 17th and Olympia Avenue on March 9 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Linda Burton called police to report her husband was "sitting in his chair with no pulse."
Firefighters reportedly arrived on scene and noticed gunshot wounds, which they noted were not self-inflicted. The victim, whose name was not released, told paramedics en route to the hospital, "I can’t believe the b---ch finally did it," Tulsa Police said.
While speaking with detectives, Burton reportedly admitted she "had thought about shooting her husband for several days."
She was reportedly upset with him because she thought he hacked her bank account.
According to Tulsa Police, Burton told investigators she took her husband’s .380 caliber gun from his vest while he slept and shot him in the back of the head. He reportedly woke up from getting shot and "tried to grab the gun from Burton," which caused him to get struck again.
He was reportedly shot in the hand and the bullet went through to his torso.
Burton told detectives she "placed a blanket on him" and waited about 15 minutes before calling 911.
Burton’s husband had emergency surgery and remains in critical condition. According to Tulsa Police, she was booked in the Tulsa County Jail for shooting with intent to kill and domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Jail records show she was released March 11.
