PITTSBURGH, Pa. (TCD) -- A 24-year-old woman is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend in a rental car and then dumping his body in an alley.
According to a statement, Allegheny County Police received a call on March 13 at 6:29 a.m. about a deceased male in Derby Alley. First responders located a male with a gunshot wound to his head, and the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit arrived on the scene to begin an investigation.
Police identified Brook Lynn Lank as a suspect in the shooting and arrested her at 7:45 p.m. on March 14 on charges of criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which cites court documents, Lank reportedly told police she got into an argument with the victim, 22-year-old Anthony Lofton, while she was driving and he was in the passenger seat.
Lofton reportedly asked her to take him to McKeesport because he wanted to make a drug deal. They argued, and Lofton allegedly threatened Lank with a gun. She allegedly reached towards his firearm and shot him in the head. She then allegedly shot him two more times when she saw he was still breathing.
The court documents cited by the Post-Gazette say Lank threw the gun out the window. Lank reportedly called Germell Phillips and asked him to help her dump Lofton’s body. Phillips has not been charged with a crime.
Trib Live reports police ultimately tracked Lank down using surveillance footage and traced the car she was in, which was reportedly a rental with GPS tracking. The vehicle reportedly had blood on some of the seats. Lank said she tried cleaning it up, but told police, "I obviously did not do a very good job."
