LONG ISLAND VILLAGE, Texas (TCD) -- A Cameron County couple was arrested after reportedly admitting they contributed to their newborn son’s death.
The Cameron County Constable wrote in a statement that someone went to the office on March 16 for a welfare concern regarding a newborn. The person who went to the constable’s office reportedly received "conflicting stories about the child’s welfare."
According to the statement, a child was born but his whereabouts "were unknown." The child’s parents, Zachary de la Rosa and Susanne Pierce, were arrested and charged with injury to a child. Pierce also faces an abuse of corpse charge.
Valley Central reports Constable Norman Esquivel said de la Rosa and Pierce revealed their child died but did not reveal how. Esquivel said Pierce "remembers telling us that she was walking in certain areas with this child that was not alive. She said she went to several different parts of Port Isabel."
She reportedly "does not remember the whereabouts of the child."
According to an affidavit cited by Valley Central, Pierce allegedly walked "all over town" with the child wrapped in a blanket and held under her shirt. She reportedly got stuck in mud and passed out. When she woke up, her baby was reportedly gone.
The Cameron County Constable says they are still searching for the baby.
