ATLANTA (TCD) -- A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a woman during an argument over a bowling ball.
Atlanta Police Department Homicide Commander Ralph Woolfolk announced Joshua Fleetwood's arrest in a video and statement shared to the department's Facebook page. Homicide investigators responded to a death at 1959 Metropolitan Parkway on March 17, at 10:50 p.m. Upon arrival, detectives located an individual who was declared deceased on the scene. She was identified as Lakevia Jackson.
According to Woolfolk, Jackson was at the bowling alley with her family, while Fleetwood was reportedly on a date. Video surveillance reportedly showed the incident, which Woolfolk said occurred "over a bowling ball."
The argument allegedly carried out into the parking lot, where Jackson and a woman from Fleetwood's party got into a physical altercation. Woolkfolk said people from each party went to their vehicles to retrieve weapons and gunfire broke out. A car reportedly left the scene still firing, and Jackson was fatally struck by a "barrage of gunfire."
Fleetwood reportedly has a lengthy criminal history. Woolfolk said he is a "16-cycle convicted felon" and has faced charges from fraud to fleeing and eluding police. Investigators secured a warrant for his arrest March 20, for charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Jackson's mother Sherina Jackson told WAGA-TV they were "celebrating a birthday at the bowling alley with a very close family friend."
In his video, Woolfolk pointed to the statistic that many homicides are "are due to escalating disputes, and this is when people do not solve conflict well."
Jackson reportedly shares a 14-year-old son with Grammy Award winner Young Thug.
