2 Texas teens arrested after allegedly luring and shooting man in dating app scheme

CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- Two teenagers were arrested after allegedly meeting a man through a dating app scheme and then shooting him.
According to a press release from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, on March 17, 17-year-old Abigail Funes lured a male victim she had met on a dating app. As the victim got out of his car, a 16-year-old male suspect reportedly shot him in the back.
The Sheriff’s Office says the victim was able to return to his car, drive to the hospital, and call 911. He was reportedly treated at the hospital and released shortly after.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a search was conducted, and the two teenage suspects were taken into custody without incident. Funes and the other suspect were reportedly with a family member at a nearby neighborhood when they were apprehended.
On March 18, Funes and the 16-year-old suspect were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated robbery, the Sheriff’s Office says.
Two rifles, two spent casings, and a machete were reportedly recovered during the investigation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, both suspects had warrants in Walker County, where they previously lived.
The teenage boy was wanted for two charges, and Funes was wanted for aggravated robbery, the Sheriff’s Office says.
