MEMPHIS, Tenn. (TCD) -- A 54-year-old woman who ran out of gas on a bridge was reportedly arrested after police found hundreds of pounds of marijuana inside her truck.
According to a press release from the Memphis Police Department, on April 17, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers from the Crump Station responded to 374 Metal Museum Drive where they met with Arkansas State Police. A Chevrolet Suburban ran out of gas and was left unoccupied on the bridge in a lane of traffic, police say.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Arkansas State Police reportedly moved the truck to 374 Metal Museum Drive to tow the car and perform a crash report. Police say the driver, Catherine Mardesich, returned to the truck after being advised that the vehicle had been towed.
According to an affidavit obtained by WREG-TV, Mardesich allegedly told officers, "I don’t want you going through my vehicle." As authorities approached the truck, police say they could smell a "raw marijuana" odor emitting from the car.
According to WREG, in Arkansas, medical marijuana is legal for dispensaries but is not in Tennessee.
A search was reportedly conducted, and police found 229 pounds of marijuana in multiple boxes. According to WREG, $17,800 in cash was found wrapped in rubber bands and a ledger.
Mardesich was reportedly arrested and transported to Jail East in Shelby County, Tennessee. According to WREG, she was charged with possession of marijuana.
Mardesich's last known address was allegedly recorded down as Seattle.
