CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (TCD) -- A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty this week to the shaking death of his 50-day-old son in 2021.
WBOY-TV reports Lucian Grayson entered the plea in Harrison County Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 19, for one charge of death of a child by abuse. The plea deal reportedly meant a second count of death of a child by abuse would be dropped.
According to WBOY, the infant, Rowan Grayson-Seech, passed away days after Grayson called 911 on June 28, 2021, to report his child was unresponsive. He reportedly told deputies at first he believed a "dog had jumped on the bed and injured the child while he was out of the room."
Rowan was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, and according to the criminal complaint, suffered “cardiac arrest and a catastrophic, irreversible brain injury caused by non accidental trauma.”
WV News reports Grayson said in court Tuesday, "I was at my house, and my son wouldn’t stop crying. Something inside me snapped, and I shook him."
Harrison County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Bedell reportedly has not accepted the plea yet, and has scheduled another hearing for June 22. If Bedell accepts the plea, Grayson could be eligible for parole after 15 years, though he could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
