ALBANY, Ore. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old mother was recently arrested after her 3-year-old daughter was found deceased.
According to a press release from the Albany Police Department, on Saturday, April 23, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer performed a stop on a car for a traffic violation. It was reportedly determined that the woman driving the car, Rebekah Gasperino, seemed to be a danger to herself and others.
After the traffic stop, police say they went to Gasperino’s home in the 2000 block of Sun Place SE to conduct a wellness check on her 3-year-old daughter. At the scene, her child, Sophia, was reportedly found deceased. There were no other children in the home, according to police.
Gasperino was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police say they have notified the child’s father and extended family about the death.
According to court documents obtained by KPTV-TV, Gasperino had filed a restraining order against her husband and the child’s father in March because she was afraid he would physically hurt their daughter. The two were allegedly going through a divorce, and the father moved out of their residence and took their daughter with him.
In the documents obtained by KPTV, Gasperino said, "Scott says he has a split personality named Bain and he is afraid of what it would do if it came out... I had visions of Scott abusing Sophia, but it was a prophecy from God of the future. I am a Christian."
According to KPTV, there was also a disagreement over the division of their home on Sun Place NE, as the home was bought with Gasperino’s inheritance. However, the house was reportedly purchased when the two were married, but Gasperino’s name is the only one on the title.
