CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (TCD) -- A 68-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing and beating a woman in her 30s.
According to a news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, May 3, at approximately noon, deputies responded to a residence off of Arnetts Fork Road to a report of an altercation and possible death. At the scene, authorities reportedly found a deceased female victim and took Elzie Wagers into custody.
The deceased woman, later identified as Pangie Smallwood, was in her mid-30s, WTVQ-TV reports.
Clay County Sheriff Patrick Robinson told WYMT-TV investigators believe Wagers and Smallwood had gotten into an altercation on Hoskins Road in the Big Creek area. Wagers allegedly drove the victim to his home near Arnetts Fork, and she jumped out of the car and attempted to make it into his house before Wagers killed her on the front porch.
According to the Manchester Enterprise, Wagers beat Smallwood with a large rock and stabbed her several times.
Authorities reportedly believe it was Wagers’ wife who called law enforcement regarding the incident. Wagers’ motive is unknown.
Wagers was arrested and booked into the Clay County Detention Center, the Manchester Enterprise reports.
