LAWRENCE, Kan. (TCD) -- A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 25-year-old wife.
According to a news release from the Lawrence Police Department, Regan Gibbs was killed on Monday, May 16, at 2500 W. 6th St., where she lived with her husband Chad Marek, the suspect. Police did not specify the manner of death but say domestic violence is being investigated as a contributing factor.
Marek called police and said he had killed his wife, WDAF-TV reports. Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart told WDAF, "He told us that God told him to do it."
Gibbs’ husband was arrested at the scene on a charge of suspicion of murder, police say. The Lawrence Police Department has prepared an affidavit that has been sent to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The victim was reportedly a soccer goalie for the University of Kansas and played in 2019. She and Marek got married last November, according to WDAF.
Marek is reportedly scheduled to appear in court May 24. He remains held on $1 million bond.
