AUSTIN, Texas (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman remains at large after allegedly fatally shooting a professional cyclist who dated her boyfriend.
According to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Office, 25-year-old Anna Wilson, a Vermont native, was killed May 11 in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue. Police reportedly responded to the home, where they found Wilson unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. CPR was performed, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, agents said.
According to KXAN-TV, Wilson was in Austin for a race near Dallas. On May 11, Wilson reportedly went swimming with another professional cyclist named Colin Strickland and returned 8:30 p.m. Camera footage reportedly showed a car pull up near the house around 8:36 p.m.
At the time of Wilson’s death, Kaitlin Armstrong was allegedly dating Strickland. Upon being interviewed, authorities learned Strickland was once romantically involved with Wilson while he and Armstrong were taking a break in their relationship, KXAN reports.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, on May 12, Armstrong was interviewed by police, and authorities confronted her with video surveillance showing her car pulling up to a home where Wilson was staying.
The Austin Police Department was reportedly told by a tipster that Armstrong learned about Strickland’s relationship with Wilson and "became furious and was shaking in anger."
Armstrong allegedly said she wanted to kill Wilson, and at the time, Strickland purchased two firearms, including a 9 mm handgun for himself and one for Armstrong.
Authorities reportedly searched Armstrong and Strickland’s home, where they recovered Armstrong’s 9 mm handgun. Police believe that it was the same handgun used to shoot Wilson, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
Strickland told the American-Statesman that his relationship with Wilson only lasted about a week and then turned platonic and professional. He added, "There is no way to adequately express the regret and torture I feel about my proximity to this horrible crime."
According to the arrest warrant obtained by KXAN, investigators searched Wilson’s phone, and through messages, they learned Wilson believed she "was still in a romantic relationship with Strickland even though he was currently dating Armstrong."
Armstrong allegedly deleted her social media accounts and was last seen May 13 by her boyfriend. On May 17, agents said they issued a homicide warrant for Armstrong in connection to the case.
Armstrong is still wanted by the U.S. Marshals Office, and they have asked the public’s assistance in finding her.
