BELLEVIEW, Fla. (TCD) -- A 71-year-old man who volunteers for a children’s charity stands accused of sexual battery against a child.
According to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, May 16, authorities learned about allegations against James Davis, claiming he sexually abused a juvenile victim over the past year. The victim was allegedly interviewed and disclosed that Davis inappropriately touched and sexually battered him multiple times in exchange for toys, art supplies, and money.
The victim reportedly told authorities Davis said he had done this to other victims and had offered him gifts and money so that he would not tell anyone about the abuse.
Davis, who volunteers as the treasurer for Florida Kids Helping Kids, hid from law enforcement in Dalton, Georgia, the Sheriff’s Office says. On May 25, Davis was reportedly found and arrested. He was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and remains held without bond. Davis will eventually be transported to the Marion County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
In their news release, the Sheriff’s Office says they believe others may have been abused by Davis and have asked the public’s help with identifying more victims.
