HOUSTON (TCD) -- A suspected robber was fatally shot and run over by a witness who was reportedly trying to escape the scene.
On Thursday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m., Houston Police responded to a shooting at a gas station at 3941 Fondren Road and located two males suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Houston Police say the shooting happened in the midst of an attempted robbery. The suspect, now deceased, reportedly approached the victim from behind as he stood at the gas pumps. The suspect demanded some money, and then allegedly tried to steal the victim’s car. The victim reportedly got his gun out of his car but was shot by the suspect while doing so. The victim then fired back at the suspect.
A Houston Police spokesman told KHOU-TV the victim was shot in the shoulder and is expected to make a full recovery.
While the shooting occurred, a woman in line at the McDonald’s drive-thru reportedly tried to leave the scene. While making her escape, she reportedly ran over the suspect.
Police are reportedly not looking for additional suspects at the moment, and the woman who ran over the suspect will not face any charges. The woman was described as "extremely scared and upset about what happened."
The spokesman said, "She was just trying to protect herself and her kids."
