LAREDO, Texas (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested after buying a firearm and allegedly making threatening statements to the seller.
According to a news release from the Laredo Police Department, on May 25, Javier Torres responded to a social media ad with the intention of purchasing a firearm optic (a scope). Torres met with the seller and allegedly said that he was going "human hunting." The seller reportedly called police to report the alarming statement.
An investigation was launched, and a day later, on May 26, police say they executed a search and arrest warrant for Torres’ home on terroristic threats charges.
Torres was reportedly arrested without incident. During a search of his home, police say they recovered several handguns, extended magazines, long rifles, a bulletproof vest with armor plates, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Police added that Torres lives less than 1,000 feet from an elementary school, though no direct threats were made to the faculty or students. The investigation remains ongoing.
