NYC man arrested for allegedly shooting deliveryman because of vendetta with restaurant

QUEENS, N.Y. (TCD) -- A 51-year-old man has been indicted on multiple charges for allegedly shooting and killing a delivery driver after making several threats to the victim and the restaurant where he worked.

In a June 2 statement, the Queens District Attorney’s Office announced Glenn Hirsch has been charged with murder, stalking, and other charges in connection with Zhiwen Yan’s death on April 30. Hirsch allegedly developed an "obsessive" vendetta against Great Wall Restaurant because of a "petty dispute over a takeout order."

On Nov. 30 at 9:30 p.m., Hirsch reportedly placed an order at Great Wall Chinese Restaurant and asked for extra duck sauce packets. The statement says he received them, but he allegedly "became irate" and argued with restaurant employees. Hirsch reportedly wanted a refund and to return his food, but the restaurant refused and called the police. NYPD showed up and reportedly told Hirsch the restaurant could not take back his order because of COVID-19 protocols.

After that incident, Hirsch allegedly "routinely threatened and harassed the restaurant’s personnel."

The District Attorney’s Office says Yan walked outside Great Wall Dec. 16 and was approached by Hirsch, who allegedly said "I have a gun" and "Be careful. This is the last time I'm going to tell you."

About a month later, on Jan. 28, Hirsch allegedly went up to another restaurant employee who was shoveling snow, pointed a gun at him, and said, "Remember me? I will kill your entire family." The employee went inside to call police, but when he returned Hirsch was reportedly gone. The victim’s tires, however, were slashed.

On April 30, surveillance footage reportedly showed Hirsch driving past Great Wall seven times between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. At around 9:30 p.m., Yan reportedly left the restaurant on his scooter to make a delivery on 108th Street, and Hirsch allegedly followed him. Yan dropped off the food and got back on his scooter. He stopped at a red light on 67th Drive and 108th Street, and Hirsch allegedly approached him on foot. Yan reportedly tried reversing on the scooter to get away from him, but Hirsch allegedly fired a single shot, killing Yan.

Hirsch reportedly got back into his car and drove to his wife’s apartment in Briarwood. Police reportedly seized eight firearms from Hirsch’s wife’s residence while conducting a search.

If convicted, Hirsch could face up to life in prison.
