Vermont dad allegedly tries attacking troopers with excavator to prevent son’s arrest

WOODBURY, Vt. (TCD) -- A 52-year-old man is accused of using a piece of construction equipment as a means of preventing his son from getting arrested.
According to Vermont State Police, on June 14 at 7 p.m., troopers were investigating a suspected aggravated assault and burglary and located the suspect at 178 Scott Road in Hardwick. As they prepared to arrest the man, Wayne and Amy Tallman allegedly "began to impede troopers."
The statement alleges Wayne "proceeded to operate an excavator and recklessly maneuvered the bucket near the troopers and their cruisers in an attempt to prevent them from arresting the suspect."
The Vermont State Police released dashcam video footage of the incident, which shows the two troopers restraining the suspect. A woman also runs in the middle of the scuffle while the excavator makes its way closer to the cars.
Wayne Tallman was eventually arrested for aggravated assault on a protected official, resisting arrest, impeding, and reckless endangerment. Amy Tallman received a citation for impeding an officer.
Vermont State Police said one commander noted, "They don’t have a scenario at the academy where we practice this one."
