WASHINGTON (TCD) -- A 45-year-old man was fatally shot over the weekend after clippings from a recent landscaping job allegedly got on a man’s car.
On Saturday, June 25, the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., tweeted there was a shooting investigation on the 1700 block of West Virginia Avenue NE. The tweet said to look out for a Black male with blue or green eyes wearing a light shirt who headed southbound on West Virginia Avenue on a green scooter.
According to a press release, at 4:47 p.m. on June 25, members of the Fifth District responded to the shooting call and found Jason Ford suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS arrived at the scene and "discovered the victim displayed no signs consistent with life."
Ford’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
In an interview with NBC Washington, Ford’s wife, Tonya Ford, said a driver allegedly became upset when grass clippings got on a shiny car. Jason Ford was reportedly overseeing a crew performing yard work at the time. The owner of the car that had clippings on it was upset, and Ford reportedly apologized. A friend of that owner allegedly drove up to Ford’s truck and opened fire, striking him in the chest.
Tonya Ford told NBC Washington, "This was not necessary. It did not have to happen like this. He apologized. We could have just moved on without this."
She said her husband died over "somebody blowing grass and him apologizing."
He leaves behind his wife and two children.
