SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho (TCD) -- A 47-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly fatally shooting her 41-year-old boyfriend while he was sleeping and hiding his body in their bedroom for a couple of days.
According to a news release from the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, on June 29, a patrol sergeant responded to Aaron Peterson's home to perform a welfare check but got no response. The person who requested the welfare check said Peterson had not been to work and also mentioned that Peterson was in a "violent domestic relationship" with his girlfriend, the Shoshone News-Press reports.
The sergeant reportedly tried to talk with Peterson's girlfriend, Stephanie Paris, who was inside the home, but she did not let him in.
Authorities told Paris they were there to perform a welfare check, and she said he was in the shower and would be leaving for work, the Shoshone News-Press said.
The responding Shoshone County sergeant, Jared Bilaski, told the Shoshone News-Press, "Stephanie made multiple statements with vulgarities, some of which I was unable to understand since she was speaking through the door and walls of the trailer."
Bilask reportedly told Paris he would be obtaining a search warrant, and she replied, "If you kick that door open, you're going to be dead. I'll shoot you."
The Kellogg Police Department held the residence as the sergeant obtained a search warrant, the Sheriff's Office said. Before the sergeant returned, Paris reportedly came out of the home with a 4-month-old infant.
During the search of the home, authorities located Peterson's body, and it was transported to the medical examiner's office for further investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office. He reportedly had multiple gunshot wounds on his back.
Court documents obtained by KREM-TV allege that Paris hid her boyfriend's body in their bedroom for two days.
According to KREM, Paris told investigators she had been taunted by voices and feelings in her head and then she shot Peterson while he was sleeping.
Paris was arrested and charged with murder, failure to report a dead body, and resist and obstruct, the Sheriff's Office said. Her bail was set at $500,000.
Peterson and Paris reportedly lived together with Paris' son, his wife, and their 4-month-old.
