COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (TCD) -- A 30-year-old police officer recently pleaded guilty to abusing a teen who was allegedly having sexual relations with the officer’s 31-year-old girlfriend.
According to the initial press release from the Colorado Springs Police Department, on March 9, authorities learned of allegations against Shane Reed, an officer within the department. He was reportedly arrested on March 18 for second-degree kidnapping, child abuse, menacing — threat/physical action, and harassment — strike, shove, kick.
According to The Gazette, Reed allegedly threatened a male teenager who was in a sexual relationship with Reed’s girlfriend, 31-year-old Kristen Wessel.
According to an affidavit obtained by The Gazette, on Jan. 30, Reed confronted the teenager and pressed him up against a fence for about 20 minutes and told him he could "kill him, and nobody would find the body." The victim reportedly believed that Reed would have killed him if it weren’t for his friend’s presence.
KKTV-TV reports Wessel was arrested in April for sexual assault on a child because of her alleged relationship with the teen. She was reportedly ordered to stay away from the teen but allegedly broke the protective order three times. Police allegedly found the victim hidden inside a crawlspace in Wessel’s home.
On Wednesday, July 13, Reed pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse, The Gazette reports. Reed was reportedly given two years of probation, 50 hours of community service, and hundreds of dollars in fines. According to The Gazette, Reed will not serve any time in jail.
In a statement, Colorado Springs Police Interim Chief Adrian Vasquez said, "The Colorado Springs Police Department values the trust placed in our organization by the community, and we are committed to holding officers accountable who violate that trust."
Police said Reed had been employed by the Colorado Springs Police Department since March 2018, and he was placed on administrative leave upon his arrest.
