HARRISBURG, Pa. (TCD) -- A former police chief who was convicted of raping a juvenile female over the course of seven years was recently sentenced to prison.
On July 18, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that former Weissport Chief of Police Brent Getz was sentenced to 16 to 32 years in prison and three years of consecutive probation. He’ll also have to register as a sex offender for life, Shapiro said.
In March 2019, Getz and Gregory Wagner were initially arrested. The victim, who was 12 when she reported it, told a teacher in May 2012 that Wagner was assaulting her, and an investigation was launched, but no charges were filed against him at the time.
The case was opened again in August 2018 by a Franklin Township Police Department officer. The victim was interviewed and revealed that Getz, who was chief of police at the time of the allegations, assaulted her, too. The victim told authorities that she was orally, vaginally, and anally raped by Wagner from age 4 to 11 and that "Getz would also join in these assaults."
Wagner, who is the victim’s uncle, also forced the victim to watch pornography with him that "depicted teenagers."
Wagner eventually admitted to the child abuse, and he told authorities he and Getz would assault her together. The rapes reportedly happened "several times a week."
On March 11, Getz was found guilty of rape of child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, and aggravated indecent assault of a child.
According to Shapiro, Getz’s co-defendant Wagner pleaded guilty to rape of child and sexual exploitation of children on Nov. 16, 2020. He was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison followed by probation and will have to register as a sex offender for life.
