Nevada parents arrested after 19-day-old child reportedly dies from 'unjustifiable physical pain'

PAHRUMP, Nev. (TCD) -- Three people were taken into custody after a 19-day-old child died from living in an unsanitary home and possibly from ingesting methamphetamine.

On Thursday, July 28, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office announced officials arrested Daniel Bills, Erica Eisenloffel, and Angela Guerini-Bolt for the death of Bills and Eisenloffel’s 19-day-old son.

Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said in a video statement that on Oct. 20, 2021, dispatch was contacted about a choking baby, and officials arrived to find the baby in critical condition. He was transported to a hospital in Las Vegas, where he ultimately died.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office was told about the incident, but Wehrly said she handed the case to the Nevada Department of Investigation "in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety" because one of the suspects is the Nye County undersheriff’s daughter.

Bills, Eisenloffel, and Guerini-Bolt were all taken into custody on charges of open murder and child abuse.

Undersheriff Michael Eisenloffel said he has had "virtually no contact" with his daughter for two years because she "has chosen a life of narcotics use and criminal activity."

Undersheriff Eisenloffel said he did not even know his daughter was pregnant and had a child until hearing about the case.

According to court documents cited by KLAS-TV, detectives believe the little boy suffered "unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering." The house he lived in was reportedly "filled with excess clutter and trash" and had drug paraphernalia and feces on the walls and floor.

KLAS reports investigators suspect the child died after ingesting methamphetamine, which was likely in some water or baby formula. The little boy was also reportedly dehydrated and malnourished.
