KILLEEN, Texas (TCD) -- A 17-year-old was charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing a military veteran who was visiting her son’s grave.
According to the Killeen Police Department, on Tuesday, March 22, at 5:03 p.m., officers received a call about a victim with gunshot wounds on the 13000 block of State Highway 195, and when they arrived, they found two victims who had been shot.
A 52-year-old woman died from her injuries, while the second suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was treated at the scene. Killeen Police identified the deceased victim as Yolanda N’Gaojia.
On Aug. 13, Killeen Police announced the Bell County District Attorney’s Office returned an indictment on Christian Lamar Weston for murder and on an unrelated charge of unlicensed carrying of a weapon. He’s being held without bond.
KWTV-TV reports N’Gaojia was shot at the Cavalry Baptist Church Garden of Memories Cemetery where she had been visiting her son Amir’s grave on what would have been his 22nd birthday. Amir reportedly died Jan. 1, 2022.
According to her obituary, Yolanda and her ex-husband, Kineh Sam N’Gaojia, had three children together. They remained married for 11 years and split up, but "remained the best of friends."
She was engaged to Herbert McIver III and planned on retiring from the military this year. She served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard for over 20 years and was deployed twice to Iraq. N’Gaojia also served two tours in Germany.
N’Gaojia’s obituary says, "Although she birthed three children, she was the village that raised and provided for so many more children, family and friends in life. Her home was always open to provide a meal, or merely a different type of love that wasn’t received anywhere else."
