75-year-old Ohio man accused of shooting adult son in the head after fight

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (TCD) -- A 75-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly shooting his 33-year-old son in the head.
According to WJW-TV, the incident happened on Friday, Aug. 26. Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth told the Norwalk Reflector that William Porter and his son, Gideon Porter, reportedly got into a verbal argument at their home on the 7500 block of Smokey Road. The fight turned physical, and William allegedly shot Gideon in the head with a Colt .38-caliber revolver.
The son was reportedly transported to a hospital via helicopter and put on a ventilator.
Initially, the victim’s father was charged with felonious assault, the Norwalk Reflector reports. However, according to WJW, Gideon later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
William Porter was arrested and booked into Erie County Jail on Saturday, Aug. 27, with bail set at $300,000, records show. New charges have not yet been added.
