2-month-old boy who suffered 'traumatic head injury' dies after staying with parents at truck stop

MONEE, Ill. (TCD) -- Police are investigating a child's death after a 2-month-old boy was reportedly found unresponsive at a truck stop.
According to a statement, on Aug. 31, at 8:52 a.m., Monee Police reportedly responded to the Petro Truck Stop on Monee Manhattan Road near the I-57 interchange after receiving a report of a child "in distress and not breathing." Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, and EMS officials were able to resuscitate the boy and stabilize him as they drove him to Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. He was then transported to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago.
The little boy was identified as Sevyn Simmons.
Monee Police said Sevyn passed away Friday. Sept. 2 at Comer.
Sevyn and his parents, Simmons and Scott, were reportedly staying at the Petro station in the back of their truck before driving back to Wisconsin.
According to Monee Police, Simmons and Scott reportedly both told investigators Sevyn "had not been ill, and they did not know why he quit breathing."
Medical officials reportedly believe he died from "a traumatic brain injury," and the Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed the findings.
Monee Police and the Will County State's Attorney's Office are investigating Sevyn's death as a homicide.
