BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (TCD) -- A 64-year-old mother reportedly shot her 48-year-old bedridden son and then herself in an alleged murder-suicide earlier this week.
According to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, on Monday, Sept. 12, at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Prenter Road to a report of a shooting. At the scene, authorities reportedly found two deceased adults.
The victims were identified as Jonathan Runion and his mother, Tammy Runion, the Sheriff's Office said.
Upon further investigation, the Sheriff's Office said Tammy Runion allegedly shot her son before turning the gun on herself. Jonathan Runion was reportedly living with and was cared for entirely by his mother and father in the home.
In a statement, Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said, "This is such a terrible tragedy and has really shaken the local community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Runion family and the Prenter Community."
Barker added, "Being a caregiver can be very overwhelming and we encourage anyone who needs help to please reach out. There are numerous resources available and contacting them is easier than its ever been."
