NEWTON, Mass. (TCD) -- A 43-year-old woman is facing murder and other charges after a 65-year-old man was found dead and wrapped in a curtain in his home.
According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Leonard Garber’s family reported him missing because he had not been heard from since the week prior even though he "was someone who kept in very regular contact with people."
Police went to Garber’s home on Mount Vernon Terrace to conduct a welfare check, but officers did not find him. Officers went to the home two more times Tuesday, Sept. 27, and during that second visit they found Garber’s body wrapped in a curtain. His body had reportedly been placed under "construction material and other heavy items" in the front part of the house.
Ryan said Garber’s body "had been placed in such a way as to conceal it from people coming into the home."
She thinks his body was there for at least a day.
During the investigation, Newton Police detectives learned Garber had been "spending time" with a former tenant, Xiu Fang Ke. Ke allegedly stole over $40,000 from Garber by forging checks.
Ryan alleged during the press conference that Garber became aware of the situation and confronted Ke about it. Ke allegedly “struck and killed” Garber, then tried hiding his body.
Ke was arrested Sept. 28 at the Newton Police Station for murder.
