TRINITY COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A 34-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife were arrested after allegedly killing the man's mother and her husband before burning their remains.
According to a news release from the Trinity County Sheriff's Office, on Sept. 30, Jacob Chrones and Adeline Aparicio-Rodriguez were booked into jail and charged with the murder of Clayton and Karen Waters.
Karen Waters went to her son's home and was tied up and gagged inside a room for around five to eight hours, KYTX-TV reports. Karen Waters' husband, Clayton Waters, allegedly came to Chrones' home as well, where he was fatally shot during an argument.
According to KYTX, the victims' bodies were burned in the backyard fire pit.
During an interview, the couple allegedly insisted that they were hired to kill Karen Waters at Clayton Waters' request. This allegation is under investigation.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by KYTX, Aparicio-Rodriguez and Chrones texted each other saying, "Got her...go to Lufkin she is being a bad girl," and "trying to keep her alive till you get back." Chrones reportedly said, "I guess...used the ball and she passed out!!!" However, the text messages were deleted, KYTX reports.
A document obtained by KYTX alleges Clayton Waters' co-workers were concerned when he didn't show up to work and ignored phone calls. Aparicio-Rodriguez reportedly said the Waters were away on vacation.
On Sept. 16, a friend of Karen Waters' allegedly received a text from her number that read, "I'm good not ignoring you had to go take care of my mom ...... bad cell reception." But according to KYTX, Karen's mother claimed her daughter did not come to see her.
Aparicio-Rodriguez and Chrones remain held on a $1.5 million bond each for the murder charge and $50,000 for tampering with physical evidence, according to the Sheriff's Office.
