DALTON, Ga. (TCD) -- A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly beating his 40-year-old fiancée to death.
According to a news release from the Dalton Police Department, on Sept. 29 at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a home on Liddell Street to a report of an unresponsive woman. At the scene, authorities reportedly found Rachael Schaefer suffering from unknown injuries. Police said she was transported to the hospital.
At the hospital, medical staff reportedly determined that Schaefer’s injuries were from an alleged beating. Police said Justin Pippen, who lives with Schaefer, was at the scene and had made the 911 call.
On Monday, Oct. 3, four days after Schaefer had been brought to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, according to police.
Upon further investigation, police identified Pippen as the man they believe was responsible for Schaefer's injuries.
Pippen was arrested and booked into Whitfield County Jail for murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and aggravated sexual battery, records show.
Pippin had allegedly abused his fiancée, Schaefer, in the past, and had been arrested for simple battery in July, WRCB-RV reports.
