MACON, Ga. (TCD) -- Two former Robins Air Force Base day care employees were indicted by a grand jury after allegedly abusing children in their care.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia, the indictment alleges that Zhanay Kiana Flynn, 27, and Antanesha Mone Fritz, 29, abused the children between January and February 2021 at a day care facility on Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.
The suspects are accused of "striking children, causing children to fight each other, forcing children to hit one another, spraying children in the face with a cleaning liquid, seizing and shaking a child while threatening to strike them, striking a child in the head with a book, kicking a child into a wall, and stepping on and applying weight to a child’s leg."
Additionally, Flynn and Fritz allegedly lifted a cot while a child was sleeping on it, which caused the child to fall to the ground. They also reportedly forced a child into a small enclosure after striking a toy out of that child’s hand.
The former day care director, Latona Mae Lambert, 51, of Kissimmee, Florida, was also indicted after allegedly failing to report the abuse, according to the Attorney’s Office.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Attorney’s Office announced that a grand jury returned a 30-count indictment, charging Flynn and Fritz each with 18 counts of first-degree cruelty to children, six counts of second-degree cruelty to children, three counts of simple battery, and one count of failure to report suspected child abuse.
Lambert was reportedly charged with one count of failure to report suspected child abuse.
According to the Attorney’s Office, the two defendants face a minimum sentence of five years in prison and up to a maximum of 20 years in prison for each count of first-degree cruelty to children if convicted. The failure to report suspected child abuse charge is punishable by a maximum of one year in prison.
