CANYON COUNTY, Idaho (TCD) -- A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother several times not long after she evicted him from her home.
Canyon County court records show Levi Davis was charged with second-degree murder and his bond was set at $5 million.
According to court documents cited by the Idaho Statesman, the victim, Karly Cantrell, was killed Monday, Oct. 10. Her husband, Kevin Kline, reportedly found her "laying in a pool of blood" in their living room.
Her two teen sons reportedly told police they saw her that morning at around 7:35 a.m., but she did not respond to text messages later that morning and during the day. A neighbor reportedly saw a blue hatchback car in Cantrell’s driveway at approximately 8 a.m., which matches the description of Davis' car.
Investigators reportedly found Davis' vehicle near his home and located white pants with red marks on them as well as other clothing with blood inside the halfway home where he was living. Davis was taken into custody and had a deep wound to his thigh and other marks on his body.
KTVB-TV reports Cantrell suffered stab wounds to the neck and abdomen, as well as other parts of the body.
The affidavit, which is also cited by KTVB, reports Davis "showed no emotion when talking about the death."
According to the Idaho Statesman, prosecutors said Cantrell’s death was "truly horrific" and there’s a chance his second-degree murder charge could be upgraded to first-degree murder.
Not long before her death, Cantrell allegedly evicted her son Davis because of "poor behavior."
Cantrell was the executive director of the West Valley Humane Society, which described her as the "heart and soul" of the organization.
The West Valley Humane Society wrote on Facebook, "Karly was always engaged and made time for everyone in their moments of need. She was innovative, creative, motivated and determined in all aspects. Her perseverance and dedication led West Valley Humane Society on a journey to excellence. Her contributions are long lasting and will continue to serve animals in need and the Canyon County Community for years to come."
