CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- Police announced this week they believe a missing 20-month-old toddler is now deceased.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Chatham County Police said their department and the FBI were "saddened" about the conclusion and that they told Quinton Simon’s family their suspected findings. Quinton’s mother, Leilani Simon, is reportedly a "prime suspect in his disappearance and death."
He was reported missing Oct. 5, and the FBI got involved in assisting the Chatham County Police Department within hours.
Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley spoke at a press conference Thursday, Oct. 13, and called the case "heartbreaking." Hadley said detectives have not arrested anyone in connection with Quinton’s disappearance and likely death, but they have evidence that "led us to the conclusion that Quinton is deceased."
According to Hadley, there are no other suspects.
Even though investigators believe Quinton is deceased, Hadley said the investigation will continue. As to why Leilani Simon hasn’t been arrested on charges relating to the case, Hadley said, "We will only do that when we feel we have everything we need. We only have one shot. We are going to do it right."
He added, "When we get to that point and when we feel comfortable, that’s when we will reach that conclusion."
