Nebraska police find missing Texas mom's body after car chase with her son

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (TCD) – The body of missing mother was found in the trunk of a car over the weekend after police engaged in a high-speed chase with her son.
Seventeen-year-old Tyler Roenz and his mother Michelle were reported missing to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas on Oct. 13. The two were last seen that day at approximately 11:40 a.m. on the 14700 block of Birch Arbor Court in Humble, Texas.
According to a statement, on Friday, Oct. 14, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office contacted Nebraska State Police to report a car they believed was involved in a homicide was traveling in the state. Nebraska State Police located the Roenzs' Mazda 3 traveling westbound on Interstate 80 just minutes after receiving the call.
State Police reportedly attempted a traffic stop on the Mazda, but the car fled and troopers initiated a chase. The Mazda reportedly continued driving on the highway "with speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour."
About 9 miles down the road, the car reportedly hit a semitruck, then went off the road and hit a tree. Troopers reportedly arrived on the scene and found the driver with "serious" injuries. They also discovered a deceased woman in the trunk of the car.
The driver, Tyler Roenz, was transported to a nearby hospital.
On Oct. 15, Nebraska State Police positively identified the victim in the trunk as Michelle Roenz. Tyler was transferred from a local hospital to another in Omaha for "ongoing treatment of injuries suffered when he crashed his vehicle."
