SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A father has been charged after allegedly mistaking his son for a burglar and fatally shooting him.
On Saturday, Aug. 20, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in Webster, Florida, to a report of a shooting, the department announced in a news release. At the scene, authorities reportedly learned that Lindsay McGeorge fatally shot his 19-year-old son, Jaiden McGeorge.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the same home earlier in the evening to a report of a burglary after Lindsay McGeorge said he saw three people, including one armed person, enter his home. Deputies reportedly cleared the scene and nothing was found.
On Thursday, Oct. 20, upon further investigation, Lindsay McGeorge was officially charged in connection with his son’s shooting death, the Sheriff’s Department said. He was reportedly already in custody on unrelated charges and will remain held in the Sumter County Detention Center.
