WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas (TCD) -- A 17-year-old was arrested after allegedly shooting a 14-year-old boy with an AR-15-style rifle.
White Settlement Chief of Police Christopher Cook said the "senseless gun violence" happened over a "possible dispute related to a girlfriend."
On Saturday, Oct. 22, at around 11:48 p.m., the White Settlement Police Department responded to the 100 block of Ralph Street, where they located the 14-year-old high school student suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg, WFAA-TV reports. The victim was reportedly transported to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
Upon further investigation, Mason Stopps was identified as a suspect, according to WFAA. He reportedly confronted the victim about a girl and fired numerous shots at him. Due to the recovered shell casings, police believe Stopps used an AR-15-style rifle, WFAA reports.
The victim reportedly told authorities that he was talking to Stopps’ girlfriend when the suspect and his friends showed up. The victim believed the girlfriend set him up, according to WFAA.
Stopps was arrested and booked into Tarrant County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Oct. 28, records show. He remains held on $75,000 bond.
