WATERFORD, Mich. (TCD) -- A husband stands accused of beating his 38-year-old wife to death while she slept.
On Oct. 16, Justin Wagenberg allegedly committed the crime in the couple’s home while the victim, Katy Dougherty, was asleep on the couch, MLive.com reports. After the attack, Wagenberg drove to Wisconsin and then back to Michigan to turn himself in two days later, on Oct. 18, according to WDIV-TV.
The suspect’s father told WDIV-TV, "Well, on the way back, he said he found Christ or something over the last month, or something, and so he decided to go back home and turn himself in, but he came home first and went to bed, for I don’t know how long, and then he called the police."
Wagenberg was arrested and booked into the Oakland County Jail for homicide without bond, records show. A competency exam was reportedly ordered for him.
According to WDIV, the victim was a hairdresser for local assisted living communities and was known to care for residents.
