VENTURA, Calif. (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was sentenced to over six centuries in prison for repeatedly molesting a child.
Between 2019 and 2021, Travis Martin, of Santa Paula, assaulted the child, who was between the ages of 4 to 6 years old, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. The molestation reportedly occurred in both Ventura and Orange Counties.
According to KEYT-TV, the victim told authorities that Martin was a family friend who had molested her in Anaheim, Mono Lake, and at his home in Ventura County. Martin had been arrested for similar crimes in 2006 and was a registered sex offender.
Martin was reportedly charged with lewd or lascivious acts with a child, using a child for production of pornography, and possession of child pornography. On Oct. 3, a Ventura County jury found Martin guilty on all counts.
On Nov. 8, approximately a month after the conviction, the District Attorney’s Office announced that Martin was sentenced to 610 years to life in prison.
In a statement, Supervising Deputy District Attorney Rafael Orellana, who prosecuted the case, said, "We are pleased with the jury’s verdict and the judge’s sentence in this case, which accurately reflects the harm caused by the defendant’s horrific crimes."
Orellana continued, "The 610 years to life sentence will serve to protect our community and demonstrates that there is zero tolerance for the sexual abuse and exploitation of children."
