MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (TCD) -- A man was recently found guilty of killing a 41-year-old victim and dumping the body in the bed of a truck last year.
On Friday, Nov. 18, the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Anthony Yester was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and concealment of a dead body.
The victim, Paul Wesley Matheny, was found in the bed of a truck on Gill Ridge Road on Oct. 28, 2021, WSAZ-TV reports. Members of a tree service reportedly found the truck parked under a power tower with a burned grass trail beside it, and a volunteer firefighter within the team found Matheny’s body.
According to WSAZ, the victim’s head was covered with a black trash bag, and there were bloody fingerprints along the tailgate of the vehicle.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Unit arrived at the scene and reportedly concluded that the victim had been killed at another location before being transported on the truck to Gill Ridge Road.
An autopsy report revealed that Matheny died from a gunshot wound to his head, WSAZ reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office said post-trial motions are scheduled to be heard on Dec. 12
