EATON, Ohio (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman turned herself in after allegedly fatally drowning her 93-year-old grandmother in a bathtub.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Eaton Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of East Somers Street to a report of a possible homicide, WHIO-TV reports. Police reportedly found the victim deceased in the bathtub.
Heidi Matheny told police that while her grandmother was doing the dishes, she held the victim's head under the running water "until she stopped blowing bubbles." Heidi Matheny did not know if her grandmother, Alice Matheny, was dead, so she allegedly filled up the bathtub and held her grandmother's head under the water until she was unconscious. Then, Heidi allegedly left the victim in the bathtub, according to WHIO.
Heidi Matheny reportedly went to the Preble County Sheriff's Office after killing her grandmother and turned herself in.
Prior to the alleged drowning, Heidi was told that her grandmother needed to be in a nursing home, but Heidi said she could not afford that, nor would her insurance cover it, WDTN-TV reports.
In a police interview, Heidi reportedly said, "It’s nothing that she did."
Eaton Police Division Chief Steven Hurd told WDTN, "According to the confession, she was just tired of taking care of a grandmother."
Heidi was booked into the Preble County Jail for murder, records show.
