1 killed, at least 20 injured after Massachusetts man reportedly drives into Apple store

HINGHAM, Mass. (TCD) -- A 53-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly crashed his SUV into a local Apple store, killing one person and injuring 20.

According to a statement, on Monday, Nov. 21, at 10:45 a.m., the Hingham Police Department received several calls about a vehicle driving through a storefront at the Derby Shops. When they arrived, officers found Apple store employees and other bystanders giving first aid to injured victims. Sixteen people were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

A 65-year-old man identified as Kevin Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hingham Police announced Nov. 22 the driver, Bradley Rein, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide by motor vehicle.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said in a statement Rein is being held on $100,000 cash bail. He pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide by motor vehicle and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

If he is released on bail, Rein reportedly will not be able to drive or leave the state without court approval.

According to Cruz, eight people remain hospitalized. Rein allegedly said he crashed through the store because his foot became stuck on the accelerator.

Boston.com reports 20 people were injured. Rein reportedly did not have any alcohol or drugs in his system.

According to Boston.com, Apple said Bradley was at the store "supporting recent construction."

Dr. Jason Tracy, the South Shore Hospital EMS chair of emergency medicine, told Boston.com most of the injuries they saw were "quite significant," which included head and lower body trauma.

Rein’s attorney said the incident was "horrific" and it "was an accident."
