BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A 23-year-old woman was arrested and charged after allegedly setting her boyfriend’s house on fire after another woman answered his phone.
According to a news release from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, in the early hours of Nov. 20, the Sheriff’s Department, Lytle Fire Department, and Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the 16000 block of Shepherd Road to a report of arson.
The homeowner reportedly told authorities that Senaida Soto broke into the residence and set it on fire after she stole some personal belongings. The Sheriff’s Office said Soto was in a "romantic relationship" with one of the homeowner’s family members.
Upon further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office learned Soto FaceTimed her partner and another woman answered his phone. However, the other woman was reportedly the boyfriend’s relative.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, "Soto became upset that another woman answered her boyfriend’s phone, went to the boyfriend’s house, and that is when she lit the couch in the living room on fire."
The couch fire reportedly spread, and the home was engulfed in flames, causing over $50,000 in damages.
While the house was on fire, Soto allegedly texted her boyfriend, "I hope your house is okay."
Soto was reportedly arrested on Monday, Nov. 21, and charged with burglary habitation and arson.
