INDIANAPOLIS (TCD) -- A 21-year-old man was convicted this week of killing his pregnant girlfriend’s mother after an argument about a Facebook post in 2020.
Marion County Court records show the jury reached Antonio Lowery’s guilty verdict Tuesday, Dec. 6, for one count of murder. WXIN-TV reports he could spend 45 to 65 years in prison.
According to WXIN, on Oct. 31, 2020, at 3:47 a.m., Indianapolis Police went to the Pangea Prairies Apartments for reports of a person shot. When they arrived, they found 44-year-old Deanna Sibley suffering from several gunshot wounds. Sibley had reportedly been shot 15 times.
Sibley’s daughter was Lowery’s girlfriend and was seven months pregnant at the time. The girlfriend reportedly heard gunshots, and Sibley told her to run. The woman escaped and hid under a truck, but Sibley was killed.
WXIN, which cites court documents, reports Lowery and Sibley were arguing throughout the day about some Facebook posts. He was reportedly helping them move into a new apartment but left during one of their fights. Lowery reportedly returned to the apartment and said he wanted $100 for assisting them in the move.
The girlfriend walked away when Sibley and Lowery started fighting, and that’s when he reportedly shot Sibley.
Lowery reportedly admitted to detectives he shot Sibley over the money and Facebook posts, and said he was angry "for no reason."
He said he "just got to shooting" and fired his gun until there were no bullets left.
According to Sibley’s obituary, she was "known across the states for her gift baskets, her picture albums and photo collages, her bold and colorful fashion sense, her willingness to help others, and her love for playing B-I-N-G-O."
Lowery will be sentenced Jan. 5.
