Woman allegedly breaks into Robert De Niro’s NYC home and uses his iPad while he slept

NEW YORK (TCD) -- A 30-year-old woman allegedly broke into 79-year-old Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro’s Upper East Side townhouse and tried to steal his property.

According to WABC-TV, the incident reportedly occurred Monday, Dec. 19, at approximately 2:45 a.m., on East 65th Street. NBC New York, which identified the suspect as Shanice Aviles, reports members of the NYPD 19th Precinct Public Safety Team saw her enter the home and followed her in.

The New York Times reports Aviles allegedly got inside through the basement door, which had signs of forced entry. Officials reportedly saw her attempting to steal some of De Niro's property.

According to NBC New York, Aviles was using the "Taxi Driver" star's iPad. Other outlets report Aviles was allegedly trying to take some Christmas presents.

Police then reportedly found De Niro and woke him up to report the break-in, though they did not know it was his house until then.

A spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times the Public Safety team "did an interior patrol and discovered her inside the residence taking property."

De Niro and his daughter were reportedly upstairs when the burglary occurred, and no one was hurt.

Aviles reportedly has a rap sheet with several burglaries on it. According to ABC News, Aviles has been arrested seven times since Nov. 25, and 26 times in total.
