SANTA ANA, Calif. (TCD) -- A 19-year-old man who was previously convicted of stabbing his mother to death when he was just 13 years old has recently been indicted for manufacturing a weapon in jail.
Ike Souzer was first arrested in 2017 after police responded to a Garden Grove home on the 11000 block of Gilbert Street to a report of a stabbing, KTLA-TV reports. Souzer's 47-year-old mother was reportedly found covered in blood and suffering from multiple stab wounds in the stomach outside the residence.
Around two years later, Souzer allegedly escaped custody from a halfway house while he was on GPS monitoring when he was 15 years old. He was awaiting trial for his mother's stabbing, KTLA reports.
He was reportedly found at a homeless encampment in Anaheim and taken into custody again.
According to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney's Office, in December 2021, Souzer pleaded guilty "to attacking three correctional officers and was ordered to wear an electronic monitor for the remainder of his sentence which is set to expire on July 9, 2023."
On Dec. 22, the District Attorney's Office announced that Souzer was indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury on one felony count of possession of a weapon in a custody facility and one felony count of manufacturing a weapon in a custody facility. If convicted, he reportedly faces a maximum sentence of four years and eight months in state prison.
The District Attorney's Office said Souzer pleaded not guilty.
In a statement, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said, "This is an extremely dangerous and extremely violent individual who has proven time and time again he will stop at nothing to try to get out of custody."
Spitzer continued, "My prosecutors are doing everything they can to protect the public and prevent him from carrying out more violence against jail staff and other inmates."
