HARRISBURG, Pa. (TCD) -- A 28-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the November stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students.
In a press conference Friday, Dec. 30, Moscow Police Chief James Fry confirmed Bryan Christopher Kohberger was arrested in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, for allegedly killing Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogen in the early hours of Nov. 13.
Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said Kohberger has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. His probable cause affidavit has been sealed until he returns to Idaho from Pennsylvania.
Thompson reiterated that because court records are sealed, he and Fry were limited on what information they could release.
According to Fry, the Moscow Police Department received over 19,000 tips about the deaths and conducted 300 interviews.
On Dec. 7, Moscow Police in Idaho announced they were looking for a white Hyundai Elantra because they "believe the occupant(s) of this vehicle may have critical information to share regarding the case."
Fry said on Friday investigators located an Elantra in Pennsylvania.
Monroe County court records show a judge granted Kohberger’s extradition to Idaho.
According to Fry, Kohberger is a graduate student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, less than 10 miles from the University of Idaho. Moscow Police are still asking for "any and all" information regarding Kohberger.
The Associated Press reported the news about Kohberger’s arrest Friday morning.
