DUNNELLON, Fla. (TCD) -- A 36-year-old man was arrested after allegedly poisoning his neighbors’ pets with antifreeze.
According to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 2, 2022, deputies responded to the 20100 block of SW 84th Lane to a report of a cat who had been poisoned. At the scene, the pet owner reportedly told authorities that his cat, Mr. Cat, became sick and started having seizures the previous night.
The Sheriff’s Office said Mr. Cat was transported to an animal hospital for treatment, where he later died. Testing allegedly confirmed that Mr. Cat had been poisoned.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pet owner said something similar happened to his dog, Bella, in October. Bella was reportedly experiencing similar symptoms. Additionally, another neighbor allegedly said that since October, five of her pet cats died from similar circumstances.
Upon further investigation, forensic necropsies reportedly determined that Mr. Cat and the other deceased pets died from ethylene glycol intoxication, likely from ingesting antifreeze.
Outside of Jeremy Gordon Stromwall’s home, the Sheriff’s Office said deputies found a bowl of tuna mixed with antifreeze. Authorities reportedly learned that Stromwall had made previous statements about harming cats in the neighborhood.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, "Stromwall allegedly stated he was putting out tainted food to poison them, including attempting to get them to eat rat poison that was mixed with cat food."
A search warrant was executed on Stromwall’s home on Dec. 22, 2022, where deputies reportedly found three containers of antifreeze, multiple cans of tuna, and fish-flavored rat poison.
On Jan. 4, the Sheriff’s Office said Stromwall was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
