SEBASTIAN, Fla. (TCD) -- A 52-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of his girlfriend.
According to a news release from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, on the night of Dec. 29, 2022, Drew Leibrock and his girlfriend were "involved in an ongoing domestic dispute that continued through the early morning hours of Dec. 30, 2022."
The female victim’s body was found along the side of U.S. Highway 1 in the early hours of Dec. 30, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Leibrock was reportedly interviewed and said he left his home and tried to drive away to "defuse the dispute." He allegedly drove to Whispering Palm Mobile Home Community to sleep in his car.
Leibrock’s girlfriend reportedly followed him to the mobile home community and tried to confront him about the dispute. Then, the victim allegedly hit the outside of Leibrock’s car numerous times and wouldn’t stop or leave.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Leibrock started to drive away and struck the victim with his vehicle. He fled the scene and failed to notify authorities.
Leibrock was located hours after the victim’s body was found, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was arrested and faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death and tampering with evidence.
Additional charges are possible, WPEC-TV reports. Toxicology test results are reportedly pending, but investigators believe alcohol was involved.
