DALLAS (TCD) -- An 11-year-old boy was killed over the weekend as he got caught in the crossfire during an altercation between two girls.
According to Dallas Police, on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex on Southern Oaks Boulevard and learned two juvenile females were fighting in the building’s parking lot. One of the females allegedly obtained a gun and shot at the other girl.
The bullet, however, struck the 11-year-old. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wounds.
The suspected shooter, who is 14 years old, reportedly fled the scene but was located nearby. Officers also found the weapon reportedly used in the shooting.
Dallas Police said the 14-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and booked into the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center.
The victim has been identified as De’Evan McFall.
According to KTVT-TV, De'Evan's mother, Vashunte Settles, saw the shooting. Settles' daughter was reportedly fighting the 14-year-old who allegedly fired the gun.
She said, "He was so innocent. He definitely didn't deserve it. I just wish the younger generation would stop and think before they do irrational things, because in this situation, I'm not the only one hurting."
Settles also told KTVT, "Take this story and do something productive with it. Let my son not have died in vain and let this save somebody else's child."
