Phoenix man accused of stabbing gas station clerk after allegedly stealing beer in Miami

MIAMI (TCD) -- A 39-year-old Phoenix man was arrested on multiple charges this week after he allegedly attacked a gas station clerk and spat at officers.
Miami-Dade County Corrections records show Billy Joe Martin was booked Monday, Jan. 16, on suspicion of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon, attempted felony murder, burglary with assault or battery, and battery on a police officer.
According to the arrest report cited by NBC Miami, on Jan. 16 at approximately 1 p.m., Martin reportedly walked into the convenience store at a gas station on the 500 block of Northwest 79th Street and took a beer from the fridge. He allegedly hid the beverage, and the cashier asked, "What did you put in your pocket?"
Martin reportedly confronted the clerk and stabbed and punched the man several times. The victim suffered stab wounds to the back and face, NBC Miami reports.
While fighting the clerk, Martin allegedly took a pack of cigarettes off the shelf.
The victim called police and locked the door until officers made it to the store.
According to NBC Miami, Martin was reportedly still being difficult when police arrived, and they ultimately had to Tase him. While in the police car, he reportedly banged his head on the plexiglass repeatedly and spat an an officer while yelling racial slurs.
He's being held without bond.
