13-year-old accused of fatally shooting another teen while playing video games

CLAIRTON, Penn. (TCD) -- A 13-year-old male allegedly fatally shot another teen while playing video games in a bedroom earlier this week.
According to a news release from the Allegheny County Police Department, on Monday, Jan. 16, at around 9:19 p.m., officers and paramedics responded to the 400 block of Wilson Avenue to a report of a teenage male shot inside a home. The victim was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police concluded that 13-year-old Laquan Rich-Cabbagestalk allegedly shot the victim, later identified as 13-year-old Chase Jones by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by the news source, two witnesses were playing video games on a PlayStation in a bedroom while Rich-Cabbagestalk and Jones were behind them on a bed. The witnesses reportedly heard a gunshot. One witness turned around and Rich-Cabbagestalk allegedly said, "I shot him."
The other witness said Rich-Cabbagestalk apologized while holding the firearm, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Rich-Cabbagestalk fled the scene, and one of the witnesses called 911 while the other tried to find Rich-Cabbagestalk, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Police allegedly recovered a Smith & Wesson Shield 9 mm firearm near the area where Rich-Cabbagestalk ran after the fatal shooting.
Rich-Cabbagestalk reportedly turned himself in to the Allegheny County Police Department on Tuesday, Jan. 17, and was charged with criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor.
In a statement, the suspect’s school announced that classes were closed on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Clairton Middle/High School added, "Our condolences go out to all those involved."
