ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (TCD) -- A 40-year-old man faces federal child exploitation charges after he allegedly brought chocolate bars and condoms to what he thought would be a meeting to commit sex acts against children.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico, on Jan. 4, Joseph Wayne Gadman allegedly logged onto a "foreign fetish website" called Fetlife and spoke with someone he thought had children. He reportedly told the person on the website, who was actually an undercover FBI agent, that he "was interested in the undercover agent's interests."
The undercover agent reportedly said they had a 12-year-old and 8-year-old child, and Gadman allegedly "arranged to meet the undercover agent’s 'family' for the purposes of engaging in sexual acts with two minors."
Gadman reportedly traveled from Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Albuquerque, where he was taken into custody. The U.S. Attorney's Office said Gadman had $60 he planned to pay the "mother" per their arrangement, as well as KitKat bas and condoms for the "children."
Federal prosecutors charged Gadman with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 10 years in prison and could be sentenced to up to life behind bars.
According to the statement, Gadman's trial has not been scheduled yet.
